The life of YouTube

YouTube is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, website on the internet today. It was created on February 14th 2005 and in a mere nine years it has grown to the monster it is today. More than 1 billion users visit YouTube per month; there are only 7 billion people on earth, which means in a single year, almost double the world’s population watches cute kitten videos. It is recorded that more than 100 hours of video are uploaded every day and 6 billion hours worth of videos are watched every month! The most watched video alone has 1,907,891,907 views, and the highest subscribed channel has over 22 million subscribers. After searching for a long time I found nothing on how many videos there currently are on YouTube or how many views there are all together; but with adding up these small statistics you can start to imagine just how big this website really is. YouTube is almost a search engine in itself, you can search crazy things such as little kids biting fingers,

to blowing up watermelons in slow motion.

The content on YouTube is endless, you can go on to watch a video about one thing and find yourself caught in the YouTube vortex and be watching a video of a kitten in a cup! Many people out there now make a living from making YouTube videos: YouTube partnerships¬†where introduced in 2007 and since then people can actually make a living from talking to a camera, showing people what they do every moment of their life, and even sitting in a chair all day playing video games. But now that people have seen others thrive by making videos, a lot of people tried to follow in their footsteps, so now becoming a “YouTuber” is almost as hard as becoming a movie star! It makes you wonder if the creators of YouTube had any idea how big their simple video website would have gotten in only nine years – where else does it have to go?
